Five men were detained by the police on Friday after a video surfaced showing a gang of men beating a cow with clubs

 And tossing it off a bridge into a flooded river in Chhattisgarh's Janjgir-Champa district, according to officials.

Five guys who are purportedly shown in the video were detained by police after it went viral due to allegations of animal cruelty, according to the police.

According to the police, the incident happened on August 10 in the late evening in the Lalmati village.

 Yogesh Patel, Station House Officer (SHO), Hasaud police station, stated that a case was filed.

The case against the accused based on a complaint made by local Bhedikona village resident and livestock owner Shiv Kumar Sahu.

According to Patel, the suspects were charged with mischief by killing or maiming animals under Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 429

The provisions of the Chhattisgarh Agricultural Cattle Preservation Act and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
